Named after the Greek goddess Artemis, this soft aromatic shrub is one of the most popular medicinal plants in South Africa. Artemisia afra is an errect multi-stemmed perennial shrub closely related to European Wormwood used in brewing Absinthe and the common medicinal, Mugwort.

African Wormwood is one of the oldest and best known medicinal plants among traditional healers in Africa. One of 400 known members of the Artemisia family, Artemisia afra is the only species indigenous to Africa.
