Macropiper excelsum (Kawakawa) is related in use and historically to Kava Kava. Kawakawa is often known as Maori Kava for it's use by the Maori people, who settled in New Zealand from Polynesia, where Kava use was common.
However, the chemical makeup of the two plants differs. An advantage of Kawakawa's chemical make up is the potential health benefits. In addition to traditionally being used as a mild sedative and relaxant when brewed as a tea, Kawakawa is a traditional medicinal plant of the Māori, with an infusion of the plant used for to promote health in bladder problems, boils, bruises, to relieve pain or toothache, or as a general tonic.
The leaves of this plant are used to make Titoki Liqueur which is exported to Japan, Australia, Fiji and the United Kingdom. We offer 10x enhanced-leaf extracts, premium-grade cut and sifted foliage.
