Guarana is a climbing shrub native to Brazil and Uruguay. It commonly grows in the Amazon basin and reaches lengths up to 10 meters. The seeds were roasted over a fire, ground into a paste, moldde into cylindrical sticks and dried again. Guarana has been used as a stimulant by several local Indian cultures to maintain alertness during tasks like hunting. Guarana contains 2.5-5 % Caffeine and smaller amounts of theobromine and theophylline. One gram of seed generally contains approximately 25 to 55 mg of caffiene. For research purposes only.
